Let us understand both one by one.

Domain

A Domain is a part of webaddress It is specially used by someone to find out a specific website on the search engine. It is a string of text associated with numerical IP address of website through which it been made easy to people to remember and search any website.

Domain name was introduced because IP address as a number is very difficult to remember so for that reason domain name was introduced. A domain is mainly connected to website IP address so people can easily remember and search any website.

Subdomain

A subdomain is a part of a large domain. In short you will be having an extra level of domain name that helps to navigate the traffic or users to different sections and parts of the website. A subdomain is created to navigate the traffic to different parts and sections of the website this gives users a separate experience of page.

Let me explain you in simple words. For example, We took a news website, ahmedabadmirror.com, As you know this is a domain name and they have a seperate page for E-Newspapers. Now, They have created a sub domain to take users to different section epaper.ahmedabadmirror.com. It would be count as a seperate website without changing its brand identity.

Now that we have got to know about domain and subdomain, Let us now jump into the comparison part.

Comparison of Domain and SubDomain

  1. The Domain is Identified as the root domain of your website on the other hand subdomain is dependent on your root domain.

  2. Another difference is Domain can exist without a subdomain, but a Subdomain cannot exist without the main domain.

  3. Domain means your standard URLs like xyz.com, but subdomain is a unique URL that is mainly purchased; it is kept at the end of the URL to navigate the user to separate page of website separately.

  4. When it comes to price, you have to first purchase your domain name from your web hosting provider or domain registrar. The amount might be on a yearly basis. On the other hand, a subdomain is entirely free you can create your own subdomain the way you want as it is one of the parts of your website.

  5. Once you register the domain name, you have to decide whether to use a subdomain or not.

Conclusion

Now, days It is really confusing to figure out what is best for your website if you want your website to be unique, then use your business name with the domain name. It will be a better act toward your domain and give a kick-start to your website. Both options (domain and subdomain) are important to your website.
