.COM or.CO - Which Domain Extension Should be Your Choice?

When starting a website, one of the first things you have to keep in mind while Domain registrations is which domain extension you should choose for your website. Let me explain to you in simple words what domain extension means, Basically, domain extension is the last part of the domain name.

For example, webme.com. The domain extension is also referred to as a top-level domain. Basically, a domain name extension will give you a working domain name that your target audience can type and search in any search engine.

Introduction

Let me give you a short introduction to .co and .com domains

.co

.co extension was first introduced in 1991 and was first registered in Columbia. This was only basically for Columbia-originated websites only. However, over time it moved towards generic TLD names. Then after a few years, in 2010, GoDaddy took an effort to dilute the .co extension in the mainstream domain extension types. .co at today's time, its the legacy extension of the internet. It is still a go-to domain extension for people who want it for commercial purposes.

.com

.com was first claimed on March 15, 1985 The site symbolics.com was the first site to register the .com domain extension. After that, the .com domain extension started to become popular right with the origin of the website. Since then, a lot of website owners picked up .com as their domain extension, it soon became the most popular domain extension in the world. Till now, around 126 million .com users are there all over the world.

Now comes an important factor which domain extension should you choose, .co or .com

.COM vs .CO - What to Choose?

1. Availability

In terms of availability, .com is a very common domain extension. it's very difficult to find a domain with a .com domain extension; on the other hand, if you look for a domain name with a .co domain extension, there is a high chance that you can get a domain name that is readily available and that also at a reasonable price.

2. Popularity

One of the main reasons to use the .com domain name extension is because of its popularity in the market.  one of the main reasons for not using the .co extension is that majority of people thinks that most website ends with the .com domain extension. And another reason is your user might all get confused if they are searching for .com in the case of a .co domain, there is a chance you might also lose your customer.

3. Pricing

When it comes to the pricing factor, .co is more expensive than .com because it is mainly preferred by many entrepreneurs or real businesses as it increases their online branding and gave the top position in competition among their competitors.

4. SEO

Now comes the most important factor, i.e ranking the domain, which mainly depends on the SEO choosing the domain extension which is more SEO friendly .com domain extension. According to search metrics, Google has stated that they mostly prefer the .com extension and rank it better as compared to the other domain extensions. And this should be the biggest reason why you should stick with the .com domain extension.

Conclusion

Well, as per the preference, .com is preferable, but both these TLDs extensions can do very well. .com is somehow preferred because it is available at a reasonable price because is standard and most widely recognized and used.
