How to Create a Subdomain For a Website?

Well, it's okay to register a separate domain every time if you have a subdomain. This article provides you with an easy and effective way to create a subdomain for your website step by step. But before that, let us jump into some of the basics and let us know what a subdomain is.

Introduction

A subdomain is a section or another part of your domain name that helps you manage different website sections. You will be able to create multiple subdomains of a domain name. Let me explain with a simple example; think that you have a separate blog page for your website. Now for that, you don't have to buy a separate domain.

Steps to create a subdomain

1.  First, you have to log in to your cPanel.

2. Once you have logged in to your cPanel effectively, Navigate to the domain section.

3. Then click the “subdomain” option.

4. This will navigate you to a new page with 3 textboxes opened. In which you will not be able to see any other subdomains configured.

5. Enter your desired prefix in the subdomain text box.

6. Here, you have to Select the desired domain name from the drop-down menu.

7. You must enter the subdomain's home directory in the document root text box.

8. Now, please note that the house icon represents the home directory of the cPanel account. The document root text boxes specify the new subdomain directory's location with the cPanel account's home directory.

9. Note that you should not use this directory as a document root.

10. Now, you have just to click the create button, and your subdomain is successfully created.

11. To open the main subdomain directory with the file manager interface, you have to now just click the link under document root that corresponds to the subdomain.

Conclusion

A subdomain is a separate domain section that functions as a standalone website or page. It can be easily recognizable by adding prefixes such as blog or forum before the domain name. Hope you now got a brief idea about how to create a subdomain for a website.
